Just bought a used TA-49 with the PTE .63 housing. Looking for responses from people who have or have had this setup in the past. The car is currently on stock heads but she only sees 110octane. If the lag will be a problem then I can swap the Garrett housing before the turbo swap.

I stall convertor will help get rid of lag. I'd suggest a 2800-3000 for your setop. I know the Orange Stripe is a 3000 stall and is rather cheap.

Finally a tech question I can help with...lol. I've got the 49 with PTE housing. I'm real happy with the turbo. The only complaint that I have is that the turbo has just a smidge of lag on the bottom end but really screams on top. I will say in my particular case that my car seems to want a little more converter than the stock D5. I've got a new converter on order from Bruce that should help out a lot. I also just installed a Cotton's stock mount IC that should probably help the spool-up as well. Hope this helps a little.

I can't help as I have a Garrett housing on my TA49 and it spools great with a regular D5 and I've always wanted to try a PTE housing to compare. I never believe claims of 2 mph and .2 seconds until I verify them myself.

I can't imagine you having ANY lag problems with the TA49 and PTE.63 housing

I ran the PTE .63 on my TE44 for the better part of a summer, and there was NO lag issues at all. Switched over from the Garrett .63 to it.
I'm now running the PTE .85 on that same turbo. Darn thin just wont die ;)

When my car was bone stock (except for a cat-back exhaust, K&N, and a chip), I had a TA-49 with the PTE.63 housing. It was awesome!! I could nail it off the line and it would spool so fast there would be 2 black stripes through the intersectoin!! :D I had the trans rebuilt and had a 2800 stall convertor, and it was even better.
