I searched and it said a te 60 will work with a stock convertor but what about one with the Precision exhaust?
What stall for this turbo?
Is this that big of a step up from my ta49?

TIA

I can't understand why anyone would want a huge housing on a small turbo?

Was there ever a better turbo than a 44 with a Garrett .63 housing for the street?

Plain and simple, the reason the Precision housing makes more HP is that they are bigger, but you pay for it in sluggish spool-up, unless you're willing to throw stall at it. The Garrett housing dried up. Otherwise, we'd still be using them, because they hit real nice on the street.

I looked at it again it may not be the 83. It is hard to tell if it is a 6 or an 8.
The other number is THB3-89.
Can anyone confirm?

It may be a .63.... I had a TE60 with the PTE housing,,, basically to me it was a normal housing, except it had the "face" where the the downpipe bolted on modified/machined(less step)..... at least that's what it looked like.... probably helped spool up somewhat.
You won't like it MUCH with a stock D5 convertor,,, not that it won't work... The TE60 is a great turbo for the street, in my opinion, but a higher stall converter would definitely help. I went with a 3100 9 1/2" lock up.. From a "49 to a '60, you'll gain about 50hp, depending on the rest of the set up.
I have a PTE52 now, basically a TE 60 with a GT40 exhaust housing. And, I like it !!:p

Those Precision Housings are made very good but when I bought my PTE-44 Turbo i noticed alot of lag which i did not like for the street.I thought the PTE-44 would really help pick up my bottom end perfomance but it didn't too much.So I asked a few guys and they told me that the .63 Precision Exhaust Housing is really for racing. They told me that they liked the Garrett .63 housings. So i made a deal with one guy to exchange my PTE housing for his used garrett .63.I put it on my Te-44 thinking i might see some difference but I was shocked how the housing changed the ride of my car.I could feel the torque 100% better or at least it felt like it and it shoved me back in my seat so hard.It is so much more fun then that PTE housing which is junk for the street. It maybe ok for just racing but alot of guys have run faster times with the garret .63 Housing. The only problem is they don't make them anymore for the smaller turbo's.I have a 3000 modified stock converter. With a Te-60 and 2800 converter I would find the better exhaust housing.Turbonetics makes .63 ratio's and maybe there are used Garret's out there but a Te-44 garret housing might not fit a TE-60 turbo. There are better housings for your Turbo out there.I just don't know exactly because I never had a TE-60 before. You will save alot of money if you get a nonracing type .63 housing then buying a $500-$1000 converter.
