Hy folks, I recently swapped over to a TE-44, and I am currently running stock turbo elbow and ATR 2.75" dp. Well the elbow is very small compared to the exhaust opening on the turbo. It appears to be a restriction. Today I took the elbow off, and I can see where the elbow is restricting the turbo (a circle of carbon deposits I guess). If I did some major porting on the inside of the elbow, I would be able to eliminate most of that overlap, but maybe not all. My question is, is the THDP bigger where it hooks up to the turbo? I would not like to get that expensive piece then have to modify it. The hole in the turbine side of the turbo is 2.5" in diameter, the THDP is 3", I just want to confirm that the 2.5" opening is completely within the dp opening. Thanks.

Try porting your stock elbow first. I ran 114 mph through the stock elbow (ported) and stock downpipe.

You won't have any overlap with the THDP, it's 3" plus the section that covers the wastegate hole.

I'd go for the THDP, 3" or the 3.5" and yes it will fit right. I have the 3.5" and like it very much. I have never seen another TR with the 3.5" and went ever I pop the hood people are like DAMN thats big :D :D :D .

A standard THDP uses a 3" pipe, but at the mounting flange it opens up. If your turbo uses a 3 bolt exhaust housing, you shouldn't need to modify a THDP to work.

Thanks for the replies everyone. UNGN, I read your great THDP vs. stock elbow/2.5" dp posts a while back, I don't even think my tires could handle an extra tenth (they can't handle what I am capable of now anyway). Very interesting, I would think that a 3" dp would allow the turbo to spool quicker and would add more power, but from your results, it shows a small increase, hardly worth $380.
Since it is hard to justify spending $380 for a pipe, I am currently considering trading my stock wheels and stock turbo for a 3" ATR new. My 2.75" dp is cracked at the end, so I would have to get a custom pipe made to fit the end of my dp which has a diameter somewhere between 2.75"-3". So I was thinkin' of going ahead and just getting the 3" dp and a straight pipe.
