I'm going to sell my car in the very near future. I've noticed that low mileage original cars seem to be bringing top dollar on Ebay. What are your alls thoughts on listing cars on Ebay. I've bought two items in my life off of Ebay and I doubt I would buy a car from there. With that said, my car has only 5700 miles and is an original Astroroof GN. I'm only selling because I can't bring myself to drive the car much and I have better things to do with the money. Should I list the car on Ebay or use more traditional methodes. I've had a couple of people show interest in the car already, but I don't want to sell myself short.

sell it on ebay... best marketing tool

sell it on ebay... best marketing tool for selling GN, best exposure, you can always state, that you reserve right to sell offline plus you set "buy it now" for your first listing....

plus with posting on tb.com you should have this side covered...

also gs nationals time of year!

later

PS I would not buy from ebay either, prices are over inflated.... with bidding wars, just not my idea of bargaining with the seller...

cartrader.com

I look at Ebay, but never buy. I may steal a Phone # and call after auction.

FWIW & IMHO:
I look at e-bay, don't like to bid or get into bidding wars, or go through the emotional stress of did I win, did somebody else get the win top bid, so I have never bought from e-bay.
I probably wouldn't have a problem with e-bay if the vehicle was local and I could inspect and drive it prior to bidding time.
In your statement of "I don't want to sell myself short" almost sounds like you are comtemplating asking too much, or more than you really think that the vehicle is worth. Figure out what you want for the vehice first. In selling a vehicle, between about 4 or 5 turbo speciality boards, (ihadav8), (turbo6power), (turbobuick.net), (t*rbob*icks), and here, and several unlimited boards such as "High speed driving", and e-bay, using the appropriate "buy it now and a " this vehicle is advertised locally and elsewhere and I reserve the right to, Auto-trader on line, Cars on line, collector trader on line, deals on wheels, Turbo-trader cars for sale, Kirbans, and so forth you should not have any problem even if you are a "little" high. It should be more important here to get what you want/feel the car is worth as compared to "I don't want to cut myself short". If you do not know what the car is worth, neither does anybody else. Definitely just my personal .02 worth. Sorry for the long post.

exposure on e-bay is like none other. IMHO buying a car sight unseen from an unknown seller is something that I simply wouldn't do but that's just me. A clean Astro roof GN will have little difficulty being sold. patience:)

HTH,

I have as well. It is the most exposure you can get with probably well over 40 million members. I sold my 99 GT on Ebay after I received 6000 hits to it. Bidding wars are great if you are the seller of the item.
I bought my GN on Ebay. I would have bought locally, but I couldn't find one with 50K or less nearby. Also it was much cheaper buying it in Michigan and driving it back than buying it in NY. The owner sent me about 50 additional pictures and all of the information I asked for. I only sent a $500 deposit and figured if that's all I lost because he was dishonest, it would have been a cheap lesson.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'm gonna give Ebay a shot. When I said I don't want to sell myself short I meant that I'd don't want to get haggled down to 20k if someone else would be willing to spend 22k for the car.

Last question......I put a new stereo, speakers, slipon seat covers, and tires on the car but have all the originals in like new condition. Am I better off letting them go with the car or removing them and selling them seperately. The tires have maybe 500 miles on them. My goal is to maximize my return in the end. I'm not trying to make a lot of money, just recoup what I have already spent.

On the contrary, everything you write reflects you're trying to make as much money as possible. That's a seller's prerogative. Denial is futile (insulting?).

Mods rarely pay for themselves, so if it's not too much of a hassle and/or you won't damage the vehicle, undo them and sell the stuff separately.

So far as listing your car on this board goes, history reflects that there will be plenty of posters telling you why your car sucks and thus isn't worth your asking price, as well as a handful of insulting offers, including trades for camoflaged ATVs.

There seems to be quite a few guys on this board who think (wish?) low miles, pristine TRs are worth somewhere south of $10K.

Why would I think that after paying $12,250 for an original owner GN with 16K miles?;)

Man Drew, sounds like you got a great deal. No doubt I am trying to maximize how much I get for the car, but I have a lot in it....hense I'm not expecting to make a fortune when I sell it. I'd be happy to recoup my costs and a few hundred dollars.

If you paid $12,250 for it, and put 10K miles on it, then folks will surely offer you $7-8K on this board when you go to sell it - LOL!!!

It also depends on when he bought it. That would not have happened last year when I bought mine. I looked for 8 months and would have bought one with cash in a heartbeat had I found one for that price so I wouldn't imagine that was recent, but I could be wrong. My friend bought his for a similar amount but several years ago. If I found one super clean for 12K now with 16K, I would buy it as well. Why not have 2 if I can. ;)

I paid $23,000 for a 9000 mile one owner. Original paint looks great. All stock (well, it was when I bought it last year). Never in rain or even washed!

Sell it on Ebay. $80 total unless you add extra's. You will get your best price there. I love tb.com but most here want to buy at an EXTREME discount.

Good luck!

Keep in mind the more quality pictures the better!

Heck I would even check with dhauser to see if he will list it for you for a fee. He set's up a mean auction!
