Took off the IAC???

What is it supposed to look like?? There is a spring with a thing stickin through it. Is this supposed to move?? It is solid. Do I need a new one. My car is running bad, keeps breakin up and everything else checks out. Any help appreciated

that spring encompasses the pintle valve. You can screw out the valve all the way. Use some carburater cleaner on the pintle,the orafice it goes into and the hole in the throttle body. Screw the pintle back in tight,measure from tip of pintle to base of threaded end that goes into throttle body. Its not suppose to be greater than 11/8th inch.Push the pintle in so its less than the above mentioned distance. Then you can start adjusting the IAC and TPS for final settings.

Do you have a scan tool. That would help you greatly.

A brand new IAC, that won't stick for 15 more years, can't be $50...

A brand new IAC Thats what I did. GM price was like 76.00 at a dealer and 40 something from GM parts Direct.

when does your car run bad? the iac only operates at idle.
