Hey Guys,
Just picked up a new tranny to have built. The engine I am having built in the future is going to be in the low 10 range. My current set-up is at best high 11's. Should I or should I not have a trans brake done now? Car is mostly on the street, but the new engine will see the track at least a weekend a month.
Anyone play with their brake on the street??? Vince Janis is building it.

Thanks

I don't use the t-brake on the street but I would definitely have one put in if you're going to see track time.

Thanks Guys, next question. Manual or electronic? I perfer manual, but you loose a gear right?

Not sure on the 200 but on a 400 with a brake and manual VB you lose engine braking. Ie you down shift with foot off gas and there is no decel form the lower gear.

If your budget allows I would go with an electric. I have a manual from Lonnie at Extreme Automatics and it works great and I love it but I think the electric is probably a little better product. Faster release, retains the ability to manually shift into second, stuff like that.

With the manual brake on a 200-4r the only thing you lose is the ability to downshift into low 1. Doing so would lock the tires up, othe than that, I like them a lot on the street. If you have the money the electrics are nice but are not nearly as simple.

I have a manual 400 in my 62 Pro street car. I know about the downshift. The only way to get it downshift is to rev it until the the convertor locks up again. Makes a KILLER passing gear. Some joker got along side of me a few years ago and was passing, I slid it back into 2nd and floored it. The convertor locks about 4000 in that car. I shot outta there like I came out of a canon. I think he soiled his pants.

I was leaning toward the manual brake. I do not have a good place for the button for elect. I have a pistol grip handle on my shifter that is make into it. No changing handles.

Thanks guys.

My manual brake shifts/downshifts normal and the decel works. I just can't manually control the 1-2 shift.

On a 400 with a trans brake AND manual VB there is no way to have engine braking due to the one way sprag.

The 200 does this in OD/4th if you lift off the gas in 4th you will not feel the engine decel like 3rd and lower.
