why would you need timing control in a piggyback setup when the TT chip has timing adjust

I also have a Reds chip and was thinking (first mistake) that I could use something like a "translater plus" to make adjustments/refinements.

Nope, Red's chip wont do it. In order to take advantage of all the Translator Plus' features you need an Extender chip. Or, to replace some of the features (timing, wot fuel control) you'd at least need a TT chip.
