I tried to pull out of the gas station this morning, and the car would not shift out of park. When the tow truck guy showed up, he looked under the car and said that it looked like my cable was stretched. He undid two bolts, moved something, and told me to move the shifter all the way down, which ended up putting the car in drive so that I could drive it home. I want to know what the actual name of the cable he reffered to is and where I may be able to get it quickly. Does it sound like something else may be wrong as well? The tow guy gave me the impression that a new cable was all that was needed. Thanks!!

I believe he is referring to the shifter cable.

You can get a cheap POS at Advance Auto(or similiar outfit) probably right away, but I recommend you get a real GM part from your local GM dealer. It will cost a bit more, and it will take a day or two to arrive at the dealer, but it is vastly superior in quality and construction than the non GM part.

I can attest to that. I have put so many cables on mine that I'm now a pro installer.:D It's true the Advance cables are nowhere near as good in quality. I broke 3 so far. One took a few months. The other two broke in under 3 days each. I have a new GM cable, but am waiting to test it until I get my car checked to see why they're breaking. It's pretty easy to change it too. If you need help feel free to e-mail me. I can take you through it step by step without even looking at socket sizes.
