I bought the biggie adaptor from RJC and was going to make the swap to eliminating the oil cooler, but it looked like the filter would come very close to the steering pitman arm. Is this of any concern?

That was the issue with the original setup as well using the PF1218 (long) filter; some owners had the filter dented or even punctured hence most of us use a shorter filter like the Napa Gold 1086.

So I would make sure I have some clearance of an inch or so to be on the safe side.
