OK, so I'm planning on getting a manual boost controller. When you keep the wastegate fully closed all the time(until your setting is reached), will it cause the turbo's bearings to wear any faster? Am I correct that the stock solenoid keeps the wastegate open slightly?(NOT that I like the idea of wasting boost!!)

No the factory wastegate solenoid does not keep the gate slightly open. What it will do is start to open the wastegate at an earlier boost level than what your setting is. Turning up the boost will not cause premature bearing wear as long as you don't try to run the turbo out of it's efficiency range and even then thay last a long time. Drew

Sounds like my GNMetro! I actually found out is WAS in fact running on 3 cylinders only! LOL
