what is the best type of black to use to do a complete paint job on my GN? i have heard a couple different ones like 99k, g9900? or the stock gm code black? what does everyone recomend? thanks, also wut about best clear coat to? thanks a lot

Toyota code 202 it is a pure jet black you can use it in base clear or single stage

let's see - get BLACK. Don't worry about this black is blacker than that black...they're all pretty much the same.
If you're convinced there's different ones, tell them you want straight black...this will have no dilution.
clear? what ever your painter is most familiar with. They are all pretty good, it's the application that counts the most.

Basically here is what I meant -
Black is black, if it is doesn't look true black, it isn't black it is something else. (blue, brown, red...)
In the case of Your car, you are evaluating the factory paint. Not a great example considering the "black" used on a GN stock was some of the worst paint (in color consistancy and overall quality)ever sprayed on a production vehicle.

Trust me, we paint thousands of vehicles a year. If the paint is only black (no metallics, no pearls, no tints) we use the same black regardless if it is a Mercedes, Kia, Toyota, Chevy etc....
Also, Black is the ONLY color that can be panel painted and have it match with out blending or tinting. Wouldn't be possible if there were different "tints" of black.

I'll give you this: There ARE formulations of black. Can you tell a difference (when new)? NO.
The ones that have a heavy mix down aren't actually black. If you want the absolute "blackest" black, just use straight black....nothing else. It's as basic as it gets.

G9900S (super jet black) is what I used on my car (Dupont) it IS their blackest black, 99K (black) used to be the blackest prior to that. If you put a factory paint job next either of these colors you will definately prefer one of them.
No offense ZAM but Earl Schieb paints thousands of cars too!!!!

Earl sheibe uses bulk colors (what ever is cheapest) out of drums with no final finish. Bad comparison ... but the point is taken

The "trueness" of black is more in the final finish. Lots of orange peel = a lighter appearing black.

Basically, my point was - USE STRAIGHT BLACK. It's the base that black is mixed from (add additional tinting for "their" formula) You can't get darker than NO tint.
Same thing for white. There is straight white...brightest white you've ever seen...

Don't go with the GM balck. GM adds a brown base to it's black. It's noticeable if you compare a GM black vehicle against a Dodge black vehicle (which soesn't add brown). Big difference. Like already mentioned...go with a black that has no colour tint added to the black. My paint was called "ebony black"....very deep paint...very nice look.

BMW black has always been my favorite. bgndobe is right about the GM shade having a brown glow.Stay with an OE color whether it be GM, BMW, Dodge, etc. If you ever need to touch up an area it's easier to match oe codes.
