Hello all I recently purchased a 1984 GN T-TOPS with 129k on it No Rust Just needs Paint clear coat is peeling in places. I purchased it from the
orginal owner had everthing with it the owners man and the operating man on tape.
Well here is my problem the exhaust has been changed the owner said it was a Kenny Bell exhaust the headers dont look stock and I know the Up and Down
Pipes are not stock the adapter between the up pipe and turbo is cracked and
I need a new one for the car to pass MD inspection well of course after I replace the right upper control arm bushings that are currently MIA.
I have been working on this baby for 2 weeks just getting it to run well the car was not driven for about 5 years so every fluid has been changed and some parts as well , Injectors, valve springs, fuel press regulator , plugs, wires, fuel pump, Big Mouth cold air, all of the vacum lines.
Another thing how smooth do these cars idle mine idles around 700-800 rpm when warm and seems to vibrate a little.
and how accurate is the stock boost gauge because evertime i run my car the gauge goes red at about 1/2 throttle I can hear no knock and see no smoke and the car never slows any keeps pulling all the way.
I am currently trying to get the interior paint mixed it is dupont code 60an
Light Sand Gray and the paint shops say it is a good code but dupont has no formula for mixing.

Welcome to the board. Mine vibrates a little at idle too. As far as the stock boost gauge, it is junk , get an aftermarket one like an autometer. Also get a visible knock detector from caspers or someplace similar. It probably wouldn't hurt to upgrade to the 87 ecm so that you can get a scanmaster, which will monitor way more engine parameters than it will with the 84 computer. As far as the adapter goes, is it the one that goes flat against the turbo flange but has a round tapered seat for the up pipe to go on? If so, either try having it welded or look for one in the parts for sale section or on ebay.

Thats right the adapter is what u said from the up pipe to the turbo.
As far as the gauges go I already ordered them from Postons man they have got to love me seems like everyday I have placed an order with them. Or Kirbins.
I own a 1987 5.0 that has been worked alot last time out went 11.78 on motor alone with 2.0 60 ft time so I didnt even turn the 200 shot of N2O
on damn thing was scary with out it and My GN feels faster even though I know Its not But It Still looks better.
Cant wait to get it done and cruise with the tops out.
