I recently picked up a stock D5 to swap into my 200r4 - previous owner had trans rebuilt with what appears to be a lower stall converter (1700 rpm with 4-5 psi boost). I want to check the used D5 before installing it into trans. Here is my simple list of things to check: End play (what is the spec?), pressure test, flush with solvent and ATF.
