I'm considering converting my brakes over to vac. I've heard that when running high boost 20-30 lb.this will cause the diaphram in the brake booster to fail. Has anyone encountered this? thanks.

Only if the check valve fails, and I've never seen that happen to date. If you're really in doubt about it, then getting a Zero Cracking Check valve would double your insurance level. They used to be used in conjunction with PCV valves, by some guys.
