How difficult is it to install the lock up assist tube? What needs to be done? Also is it a must have with the 5 disc?

Thanks
Steve

They are not hard to install. Just a matter of locating and drilling one hole.
I have used them both with and without the tube. The butt dyno does not see a diff in lock up duration or firmness. I always remove the checkball from the input as directed.

Thanks. I have heard it is not necesary to install the lock up assist tube. So in your opinion you do not think it is a must to do?

I am going to ask Jack at Precision for his opinion too. But I wanted to ask some real world people too.

Thanks for your help

Jack will definatly advise to run it.
But, I have had good luck both ways.:)

First you have to remove the pump--I assume you know that--Also don't the one hole have to be sealed or both for that matter. I know the theory behind it and have always put them in. I assume it might make them lock quicker as the tube pulls a vacumn on the port. Good luck talking to JACK. I alway get frustrated and never seem to get a straight answer.
The last 2 multi disc I got from them did not come with the restrictor fitting. Called and asked if they no longer suggest using them. "Yes you need it, do you want me to ship you one". Would have been nice if it was already in the box --IMO

when i sent my last converter back Jack told me specifically that if i didnt use the restrictor fitting that he wouldnt warranty the converter. FYI
He said the same with the pump tube. HTH Deren

Jack at Precision is going to tell you it's required, along with removing the checkball and installing the coolant line restrictor.

More than likely your tranny guy will tell you none of that is necessary.

I've run mine both with and without the suggested modifications. There does not seem to be a difference in lockup firmness or speed either way.

I'm getting ready to install this kit and have three questions.

1) Where is this check ball located that needs to be removed?

2) What is best to use to seal the two pipe holes you need to drill?

3) What needs to be removed to pull the pump?

Thanks!
Dan

If I remember correct, it is to provide enough fluid to the clutches when high speed lockup (4th) is applied. It is also required by Jack.

Thanks but I know what it's for. I was looking for installion help.

Its in the end of the INPUT SHAFT

The bypass tube kit comes with the correct drill bit. Should be a press fit deal. I guess you could use JB weld for overkill.
