Ok heres the story I got a date with:

Supped up '87 Iroc-Z........heads, slightly bigger cam, runners, exhaust, computer and chip changes, that is all he will tell me........he says he should be running right around 13 flat.

'04 BMW M3.......stock.....to expensive to mod.....12.8 to 13.1 is what I have read this beast runs. His traction is AWESOME!!

'94 LT1 Camaro w/6 speed.........not to worried about him.....just filter, chip & catback. Oh ya and the guy weights in at about 300+ pounds.

I still have a low boost problem that has to be dealt with.....I can hear a leak around the turbo area. I plan on running race gas at the track.....probably fill up on her earlier that week and get her tuned the best I can before I go. Around 20#..........safe on my stock rebuilt engine?
So, with what I got done to my car I am looking as to what else I should do before I go to race 'em. I should have around $300 bucks to dump in her yet this spring.....baby on the way!! What you see in my sig is most of what I have done. Suspension is stock except for right rear air bag. It's not a posi but it turns posi;) Oh ya I have Copper Cobra 215's, stock heads, stock replacement cam, stock tranny, stock stall.........those are probably my biggest down fall. So, what do you guy think I should focus my energy on before I go...........do I have a chance? What do you guys think my car should run?

Thanks, Nick.

get the cheapies first!!! WALBRO 340, hot wire pump... ADJ FPR, and though the cost is high, you need a stall converter!!!

If you can hear a leak in the exhaust by the turbo, check the up-pipe, If there is any black on it anywhere, stick a fork in it, and spend 90 bux on the ATR up-pipe. If that is not the leak, check the exhaust elbow. Your turbo setup may be messin with the wastegate. with c16 fuel, the pump upgrade, and a good chip, you got the 13's handed to you with that IC and your mods!!

I do have the basics done.........bigger fuel pump, hot wired, atr up pipe, atr down pipe, race pipe, pinion snubber, RR air bag, adj. wastegate, adj. fuel regulator, 40# red stripes, ta-49, the V2 intake/intercooler, the throttle body that comes with the V2, ported exhaust elbow, might be some other little stuff but that is the heart of it all.
Will a convertor damage my stock tranny I dont want to have to rebuild that? What about drag radials? Will they hurt my tranny at all? I have a custom chip from Eric Marshall..........I was going to have him hook me up with a chip for 110 race gas.....more timing.......that should give me a little more power. I was thinking of finding a nice used set of aftermarket headers........not sure were to stick my money. Tranny still shift really hard so I dont want to screw with that and then have to rebuild it.

Thanks, Nick

Hey man, I think you and I have similar mods to our cars, except i have a slightly smaller turbo, injectors, and I have posi. TUNING is the biggest issue. I also had some major exhaust leaks on my car, especially when I put everything back together. I also had a low boost problem when I first started out with the TM kit, and it took awhile to figure out but I got it. I had to do some reworking of the wg sol and actuator lines. You shouldn't have problems beating most of those cars. A higher stall convertor does help, and makes these cars launch hard. My tranny came with the 2004 BRF model, and D5 convertor, same ones in the 86/7 gn's because of the year it was made. I had it rebuilt with a 2800 stall and an art carr shift kit. The convertor shouldn't hurt the tranny unless its already a wear unit, but i would reccomend getting a shift kit, prevents slipping between shifts, and you get harder crisper shifts. Whats the max boost you can hit right now? Im ondering if it has something to do with the way the wastegate is mounted? Because I know with the TM kits, the factory mounts don't work too well. I had to drill my own holes for it to work right cause the puck would never completely seal. after I got my car tuned with my combo, I am able to keep with mid 12 second cars, even though I've never had my car at the track. The first thing you gotta figure out is the low boost and exhaust leaks. Let me know how you have everything setup and I can try to help you man:p

Hey man, I have fooled with the wastegate/vacumm lines a few times, with no luck. The mounting of it seems to be fine it seems to be pushing straight out with a slight upward angle towards the wastegate puck.(Hope you can picture that in your head......;) ) The leak is on the turbo..........I was short one of the retaining clips(not sure what they are called....they around found on the intake side of the turbo.....they are the gold piece with two holes) so a speed shop here told me that just a couple of washers should do the trick I am hoping that missing that center section inbetween the bolt holes is causing my leak........I hear a leak right were the washers are on the turbo instead of the retainer........so I got a retainer finally and will be trying that. Along with a different hose for connecting the turbo to the intercooler pipe. I replaced the plastic stock intake hose with a nice aluminum pipe.........that did nothing......Turbowrenchead was having probs with that. Right now she is pushing 11lbs. of boost..........actuator is as short as I can go. Puck is sealed shut. I even bought a new adj. wastegate....but that didnt change anything. I am hoping I can figure out what the leak is around the compressor/intake side of the turbo. NO EXHASUT leaks.......just a leak on the intake side of things. I looked for cracks in my intake and saw nothing. Well, I hope all that made sense. I just hope that little leak I am hearing is my whole problem.
Its good to hear you are keeping up with mid 12 second cars.......give me lots of hope for my car. I dont want to do anything to that tranny until I have the funds to do it right, all at once. How much boost are you running right now? Pump gas? If I dont beat the M3 thats alright because I didnt pay 55K for my car....:D But, man it sure would be awesome to take him out....... There is a guy at work that has a '87 GN running high 9's I heard from a friend........works on the other side of the week(12 hours shifts).....I am hoping to meet him by spring and see if he will possibly help me with tuning.

Thanks, Nick

Hey Nick, that leak can very well be your problem. It only takes a small leak to cause a headache of problems. Right now im running 17 psi boost on pump gas with no knock. I cranked it up to 21 psi on a -30 degree night we had here awhile back. I had a little knock on it, but it qas so cold out, it was nuts. ?Traction was my problem. Right now at 17 psi, if i pin it doing 40 mph, the tranny would downshift and id break loose. Im pretty sure I could have made some good track times that cold night, but of course it snowed! and car went into storage after that. I think the first thing you should do is get that turbo leak fixed, and then see if that helps. Also did you check yout TM intake for leaks? apparently there were some that leaked on the passanger side..

regards
