I still have the stock rear end, save for a girdle type cover. My car should launch pretty good this coming year, and has some decent power (120 mph in the 1/4, on the old parts). Anyway, I just wondered whats the worst case scenario if I go to launch and bust an axle? I know it would be smart to upgrade, and I hope to, but I don't want to do it yet, simply because every time I modify something, it seems to be half as reliable. I will probably just get some moser replacement axles, and run the stock posi till it goes. Opinions? Who has the best deals on these axles? Part #'s? Thanks!

axles

I would not recommend buying Moser 28 spline replacement axles. I went that route a few years back. They will twist in the spline, then you will have fun getting them out. IMO, I would stay with the stock until you can upgrade to at least 30 spline. I know of several people running low 10 s @ 126 + with the stock axles. I have seen a couple break on the starting line.( Stock axles ) Car will roll a few feet, no damage to the 2 I saw.

With a c clip type axle if you bust on the street the axle will walk itself out(on drum equipped cars only). From the 2 rears I've seen broken no damage was done to the housing. Most of the times you'll end up spitting part of the spiders all over the place.
