What is the stickiest & largest tire I can fit on an 18x8 wheel with rolled fender lips only?

All I am coming up with is the Mickey Thompson Street Radial 2 in 265/40/18 - but it's only 26.5" tall. Is that the best I am going to do? I was hoping for something closer to 28" tall in a 275/285 size. Running 285/40's right now with no clearance issues, but it's a Sumitomo HTRZ and doesn't hook at all. Thanks for any help.

you are gonna have a hell of a time getting and 18" tire to hook!

Are you trying to accomplish traction on the street or a strip application. I run a 275/60/15 Mickey' T they bite hard at the track but it will not hook on the street.

Mostly for the street but I'd like to be able to make a track run without changing out if I feel like it. I know the Sumitomo's are totally useless on the street, and with the car set up the way it will be in a couple weeks when I get it back, its going to be even worse. I have some 15" wheels that I will eventually get some ET Street's for but need something better for regular driving.

I assume since you are running an 18" wheel&tire combo your suspension is set up for handling which makes it stiff. Judging from I see in your sig your car is pretty stout at 28 psi. I can not imagine any 18" tire working......I have never seen one to be able to hold the kind of power your car should be making. Staying with a 15" sticky tire at the track is gonna be your only option and then you may also have to work around that stiff suspeion to get the car to squat.

If you don't have disk brakes that are too big for 15s that what I would stick with. M&h tires may work for 16s or maybe even 17s but not sure about 18s. I know a lot of guys like autocross tires, buti don't know if they'll handle the power your working with.

Stock brakes, but right now we're redoing suspension. Eibach Pro Kit, Bilstein's, SC&C uca's, etc...I really like the Torqlites but may just have to bolt on the 15's. It looks like the M&H tire would be best for daily driving, who knows if they'll hold. The car will burn the Sumitomo's from 50mph. 1st and 2nd are useless. Need to find someone using these on the street and see how they work.

Mickey Thompson is making a street tire for all seasons. 18 inch tires too.
