what size of tire to go with

I am looking into buying new tires. I want wide tires for the rear end. What size should I get for the most traction?

Stock rim? 255/60 would be about the max I would want on a stock rim..

8" rim? I ran a 295/50/15 on an 8" with 3 1/2" bs.. Really filled the fenderwell. No rubbing with airbags..
