what speed in 3rd gear?

I have a digital dash(no tach and 85 mph). What mph does 3rd gear turn(max mph) before it shifts into OD. Thanks,,, Ross L

This will vary from car to car. It should go to 4500 at least.

At approx what mph assuming a 5,000 rpm upshift. Shouldn't all stock geared cars run a similar mph @ WOT in 3rd(~5,000 rpms).

My GN w/ 275/50/15's at 5200 rpm in 3rd w/o the converter locked was 106.5 on the ticket so figure maybe 107.5-108 at the line w/o the mph avg. used to figure 1/4 mph by the timing system.
This was before the V4 and power plate on real street radials at 20 psi w/ alky but with a bunch of knock off the line because the alky had a leak and wasn't holding a prime.

It will probably shift somewhere between 95 and 105 if you let it shift itself, which is why you shouldn't. Shifting into OD that low will slow a car down vs. leaving it in drive until 110 or higher (indicated by speedo so tire size doesn't matter), then shifting into OD.

On my car, i have run 112 thru the traps in 3rd gear, with 26x10s and the torque conv locked up....i can only assum rpm was almost rapped out at 5200
