I have located a 87 GN for sale locally on one of those local auto trader type internet sites and the car was listed for $5,900. So, I contact the guy and discuss the car and arrange to go view it next week as the guy said he was going out of town the rest of this week for Christmas and the car is stored approx 30 miles from where he lives. Anyway, we discussed everything I could think of about the car and it looks like a pretty good deal if it is as described. I have seen one picture of the car from the website and it looks clean. I pull up the site again this morning and the guy has edited his post and now the price is $6,900. I realize now that I did not bring up the price during our telephone conversation. So my delima is this:

1: When I meet with the guy should I play dumb and say something like, "so, you are asking $5,900 for the car?"

or

2: Up front mention how I see he has now raised his price $1,000 since our telephone conversation?

or

3: Be willing to walk away over the $1,000?

What do you guys think the best way to handle this is?

It's his car, he can charge whatever he wants. That's just capitalism. You can bring it up, but unless he told you he would sell it to you for $5900, I think you are out of luck.

If he isn't in any hurry to sell, and it is a good, clean car, someone will probably buy it at or near his price, even if it is a buyer from outside the area where TR's may be more scarce and worth more.

It's all in how much demand there is for the car. TR's seem to hold their value very well when compared to most Mustangs, or other similar cars. If you have the money, and the car is nice, and fits your needs - life is too short IMO, just buy the thing after checking it out thoroughly. Make sure everything matches, do a carfax, check the tranny for BRF code, etc... etc...

Good luck

play dumb, it was listed for 5900 when you talked to him. So casually bring up the 5,900 and see that he says...

Then say oh sorry I could have sworn it was 5,900 and let him explain why it changed.

IF the car is worth the $5900 and you were willing to pay that for it, go look at it and when he asks $6,900 say you are willing to give him $5,900 for it.

If he doesn't accept it walk. Simple as that.

Don't offer any more for it unless you can really really justify it.

Just my .02 he may be looking to make sure he gets his $5900 for it so you don't offer him less.

Or he's just a clown, hard to tell on the internet. :D

Let the car justify the price, look it over real good too.

Look the car over, If it's something you want, Low Ball him, offer him 5000, then when you get it for 5900 or less you'll be happy.
