I guess getting a TQC at this point in my build would be a mistake.
I just hate buying the same parts twice
i want to put a built transmission that’s collecting dust in the garage BUT I know I need a TQC in the worst way.
So should I go cheap for now with a stock D5 or a re-stalled D5 or maybe a used unit until I make all of these decisions.

This is what I want in a TQC
1-lock up is a must
2-i don’t want it to feel loose- I had a loose TQC in a SBC it worked good but I hated it.

Just call Eric at Dynotech down the street from you:smile: He's hooked up with Pro Torque, and being close by there's no shipping if you aren't happy with your choice. I used to work for him until he moved the shop to LI, never had a customer unhappy with their converter while I was there.

i just like to have an idea of what to look for, before i talk to a vender.

i'll give him a call and see if he has a good used one or a new one at good used price.
i pass his shop about 20 times a day.

Dynotech told me $250.00 plus tax for a used re-stalled D-5.

I am going to buy a stock D5 for now and hope it works.

BTW how do I flush a converter?
I want to make sure it’s clean before putting it onto my Trans.

Not to undercut anybody , but..

We sell brand new with chrome moly hub, brazed and bearinged D-5 converters for 330.00 So in turn for $80.00 more you could have a new one that you KNOW has no contamination. If you elect to buy a used one from Eric, cool. Eric is a great guy. I just thought you may be interested in a new one so you KNOW what you have. I do not think Eric would ever do you wrong tho.

Here is a link to the converter. Only difference is they are now Black instead of orange.

Flushing it has to be done by a torque convertor shop. They cut a small hole in the body, and connect it to a pump where mineral spirits are flushed
through it for like 12 hours. After flushing it is welded back up.

I had mine done by Bradco Engineering, he is local to me. If you are buying a restalled one, I would ask if it had been flushed, prior to you using it.

Good luck.

I was on your site last night and when the money and Trans are ready
I will give you a call.

Now back to more TQC questions.
The TQC on the car now pushes hard on idle I could go about 10 to 15 MPH on idle (750-775 RPM) right after I let go of the brakes.

How does the Stock D-5 feel on idle?
