which rear main seal ?

does a 0016 block use a buick or BBC rear main seal ?
It has a cast rear cap.

Anyone have a pic showing the 2 different seals ?

Early Off center blocks with a production style cast rear main cap use a Buick rear main seal. Later Off center blocks with a steel rear main cap use a BBC type seal.

Don't have a picture, but the seals are totally different... Another thing to look for is the solid versus ugly opened lifter valley on the older blocks.

That is a BBC seal. It is the one you would use with a later Off center block.
