Widest Tire/Rim combo on Turbo Regal?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum, my apologies if it's not. Anyway...

I'm looking at buying a set of 17" Cragar SS's for my GN. The widest rim they offer (that I've seen) is a 17x9. Those would be for the rear of course, basically what I want to know how wide of a tire I can put on there and what offset should I get the wheel in? Got a recomended size for the front?

Any info you guys can give me is let appreciated.

im no expert.. but pretty much everybody i know that's trying to squeeze lots of tire uses a 3.5 inch backspace... but they all have 15" rims too. good luck, and great choice on wheels cragars rule!

im using 255x50x17 s w/a 4.00-" backspace on 17 s x 8",with a 17 x 9 you could probably go to a 4.5" backspace.

I can't commit on the 17" wheels but for 15" wheels I can.
I have been running 305x50x15 BFG Euro since 1990 on American Racing Vectors 8-1/2"x15" with 3-7/8" bs.
Fender lips are rolled tight and the well is full.

I'm using boxed upper and lower rear control arms in the rear, stock height, 275/40 17 on a 17x9 wheel with 5 inches of backspacing with a 1/8 inch wheel spacer behind each one. this ends up being 4.875 inch backspacing. No rubbing but real close!
