I know the turbo is not in the same spot but will an 86-87 3" DP bolt directly to my 85 HA turbo...I know the pipe wont fit or be routed right but will all the Holes, bolt , WG, and "big one" all line up right and bolt on?

And if it does / will, I need to find one to cut up. I've got plenty of DP room to make a custom one just no way to make a flange w internal WG

The 86/87 downpipe will not work on a 84/85. I am working on a downpipe with the integrated waste gate. The project is slow because a fellow member is too busy at work- he can make the flange with the puck. We already have the exhaust guy. I would be patient and send me a PM if you are interested in a 3 inch downpipe. Brad

The flange is the same but the downpipe for an 86/87 will never work on an 84/85. The GM stock turbo elbow is the same on an 84-87 TTYPE(GN) as well as the 89 GTTA. That is why these cars all need to eliminate the turbo elbow. Brad

Brad,

The down pipe itself is not a problem...I am aware it wont fit. I have tons of room to work with (no heat or AC) I was wondering if I could cut up a used 86-87 DP and weld my own to finsih it off. I just don't have the know how to produce the flange with internal WG

Hot Air 85- Yes you can hook up a 3 inch downpipe to the stock turbo elbow. I have a 0-60 hot air downpipe sitting on the floor collectong dust. I have decided that rather than try to hook it up to the turbo elbow I would rather eliminate the turbo elbow altogether. My 2 cents. Brad

Your idea will work. Cut the flange with wastegate puck off the 87 DP and make your own 84-5 pipe that will weld up to the flange. The bolt patterns on the turbos are the same. You might be able to find an 87 pipe that's been damaged pretty cheap since you only need the flange. I almost went this route.

One other idea, and it's the way i went was to use the Lee Thompson style pipe (no longer made) and run an external gate. The flange just blocks off the wastegate hole in the turbo and I run an external gate on the crossover pipe. Not the cheapest but boost creep is a thing of the past.
