Won't Start. Trying to Check Compression

I have a no start problem. The car has a possible blown head gasket. I have spark and fuel. Now I am trying to check compression (what a PITA) but with the fuel still being pumped into the cylinders I think the oil is being washed off the wall. What would be the best thing to stop the fuel while cranking? Fuel pump fuse, relay or something else?
Even though I have spark can the crank sensor be the problem?

Unplug the fuel pump by the back bumper

Unplugging the fuel pump would be an easy way. Unplugging the orange wire at the batery should work, too.
