They did have that. The issue it the NFL has to to step in and be part of the process first or the guaranteed money is just that. The Pats cut him b/f any NFL involvement. Cutting all ties so early also affects the cap money for the team so the Pats are taking a 12 million dollar hit on the contract and that money doesn't come off the total allowed for the team. It was very costly for them to rid themselves of the player (the new name for Hernandez). Not only the money but then now there is one less experienced reciever for Brady.
