Help-Going to do a budget rebuild the target is 11.99 at least once.

If you have a Turbo Buick why so many decisions being left up to you?

+1. If you have an experienced TB guy that knows the difference from what's needed and not for your perticular build then why are second guessing him? Just ask for a list of parts he wants and go get them. There's no way you are not going to spend money so get the "cheap" idea out of your head. You can be frugal with your choices though. I think somewhere you stated your goals were mid 11s. You should be able to do that with a basic rebuild of a good block, TE44, Pat's 2800 stall converter, alky and TT chip.

He doesn't want to hear that :p Prick ???? NOPE ... Just reality.

........Znix... Give it a whirl

3-Comp cam 212 Cam-------------$288.95
4-EDL-7829 Timing chain-----------$54.95
5-SLP-HT-2270 Lifters-------------$119.94
6-SLP-R-10499 Piston Rings-------$119.95
7-TRW-L2481F Pistons-------------$311.70
8-TA_1316-231-2 Rocker shaft----$139.95
------------------------------Total $1174.14

Still looking for
A-Spring and retainer set.
B-Push Rods- after engine assembly
C-Valve springs

Should i get new OE replacement Rockers?

On the heads i am trying to figure what i want to do to them.
Multi angle
Bigger Valves ?1.77 intake and 1.50 exhaust
Port work?
Gasket match?

I am desperately trying to keep this budget friendly

I may be crazy here but why are you spending that cash and not getting a roller cam set up. Get a EDL cam kit with springs lifters retainers every thing for $300 or By the time your done the way you headed you can get a roller cam kit from FT for not much more money.
cam $288 ,lifters $120, pushrods $100 Spring and retainer set $100 cam button $20 now your up to $600+ on a cam if the sale at FT is still going on you can get the roller cam kit for less then $800 out the door.

Full throttle speed kit no longer on sale :(. Sadly.

holy ship

come on guys cut me some slack.
with my tuning inability i NEED to build a faster engine just so that i can hopefuly make it go as fast (slow) as need it to go:biggrin:

i couldn't make into the 11s with what i had so now I NEED MOORRRR:biggrin::biggrin:

BTW that cam on the list is a Roller cam just not a cam kit.

I love you guys for trying to steer me in the right direction.

Main studs....pass. That "may" add an align bore and hone to the machine bill. Did you ask him if he's doing that already, or is it because you want main studs? If you did the steel crank, caps and studs then I'd say it would be expected. Do you have plenty of room to pull the heads in the car? Studs take more work that bolts. Bolts work fine if they are more budget friendly and I do see headgasket replacement in the cars future...j/k...well...LOL

Well, quit yanking the wheel. Tuning is not rocket science. Hell, a chip from Eric is practically spot on. Just minor adjustments is all that's needed. People would you on that too.

thats Fcked up but still LOL.

I don't remember how the studs came up if it was my idiosyncrasy's or going to do a line hone anyway:confused:

i have to look at the car to see if the heads could come off over a studs.

Current ARP studs have a hex (allen) built into the end of the stud so you can take them out before you take the head off.

True, but if you can use ARP bolts and save money on a car you know may go through at least one head gasket repair why complicate things? Oh and see how fun it is searching the "proper" stud install or what to do when the hex strips out.The double nut is a p.i.t.a. I've been this route and would do bolts on the "test and tune engines".

ARP-123-3603 -$36.39

Thats a deference of $46.58 which is huge considering the long list.
I'll run it by my guy and see what he says.

I hope you can still to your budget better then I did I did a stock rebuild just hone new rings bearings ,ARP main studs ,ARP head studs, Valve job, mild porting on the heads not to crazy just cleaned them up some and a roller cam. I spent $2300 on it all. But then the since the engine is out I should do this set in and before I knew it I spent $2k on other things like rebuilding the steering and the front suspension, a hydro boost upgrade to get rid of the leaky PM brakes .

So why throw more parts at it?? Keep what ya have a play with the TT chip .. come on there are only so many variations in the chip. BUT before tuning everything in the car has to be up to snuff or it won't work no matter what parts ya throw at it.
..This thread is like driving by an accident.. I have to turn an look :p

...oh ... I only work on my own junk since 2000 (I think). Trying to figure out why a car doesn't do what its suppose to do can be a real PITA because ya have no idea what else was done an IF it were done right.

Grumpy, this thread has been going on since 10/08. That's over 2 years to fix issues rather than rebuilding just to go 11s. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.

Hey garrett, after 2 years how's that flat tappet cam doing?

Just in case i left it out of the list
I will be reusing ALL of my current accessories(Turbo, Injectors,Chip and EVERYTHING ELSE.
Its all good Grump i understand "playing it safe" and staying away old junk wouldn't want to ruin your rep. Grumpy Do you gamble?

You guys are TOO funny.

i had abandoned the idea of the rebuild some time ago. when i started getting the "you don't need This" and "you don't need that" and the big "work with what you got"
So like the gods suggested i ABANDONED the rebuild idea and worked with what i had (TONS of BLOW BY, loud as s lifters) .I had so much blow-by that i had to wipe the valve covers just about every time i got into boost. OHH i should have tunned out the Blow-BY RIIGGHHTTTT.

So i then went ahead and worked with what i had and proceeded to go to TWO track rentals and showed improvement each time.:eek: DUUUUHHHHHH

BUT after I BLEW UP (LOWER END KNOCK) THE ENGINE i picked up this thread where i left of instead of starting another one.

So now working with what i have, should i just put some heavy oil in it and go make some WOT 25 PSI runs?????:confused:

i know i am not as smart as you guys and i ask a lot of questions and i am "ridiculous" but please help me out here Should i run the car as is????

What performance parts am i adding to the build?
A roller cam??? OHHH i should go flat tappet instead
The heads i have them out and they are going to the machine shop for a cleaning and rebuild why not do a little something to them??? OHHHHH i should put them back on as-is then take them back out and do the work to them and in the proses pay for extra head gaskets and every thing else that comes with doing the job:rolleyes:
AND if i don't do the extra work while i have everything out i'll get the "you should have done it while it was already out"

Sorry but here comes another dumb question.
if i do a slightly larger cam and some better flowing heads shouldn't i be able to run the 11.50 that i am looking for with less boost??
Is running less boost safer?

I suggested you wait till like April to see if and good ported irons pop up for sale. Have cash on hand if possible. It is possible to make the same power with less boost when going from stock heads to ported ones. How much less is to hard to answer. I would say that you should stick to a cam no bigger than a 206 for stock heads and a 212 Max for ported irons and the goal you have. The cam is just a part. The boost and timing with out detonation will be the way you make power.

I'm telling ya man its not hard. You can do it without pulling your hair out.

I get you!
I just don't see where i am pulling my hair or having a nervous brake down. Heck its very cold out and some of my spare time goes to thinking out loud on this thread.
I guess thats the general consensus that i am loosing sleep and going bald.

As for your heads thanks for the offer but I HOPE to have finished the Engine before then, If not i'll keep an eye out.

I wasn't hinting at my heads being up for sale lol! Its just one of the yearly trends I see. People sell ported irons and "upgrade".

If you are going to rebuild that engine b/c it's hurt make sure you examine it to find out what went wrong. You don't want your rebuilt ending up doing the same. Jasjamz is right, ported iron heads are on the board all the time. Small roller cam kit should be all you need.
