I did exactly that, I used a metal ruler (on the bad paint) and measured top to bottom and in from what ever side was closest to an edge. I did this with all emblems and then had someone assist me in putting them back on, sort of standing two feet behind me to verify they were straight and where they should be.
I would post the pictures but they are really bad. I had a hard time figuring it out myself but I just blew the images out until they got so grainy I could see the edges.
