anyone know the thinkness of the bar? is it 1-3/4"x.134" wall mild steel?

most all bars in the buicks are 1-3/4 correct. i want to buy a mount for it and wondering what size it is.

roll bars by nhra specs should be 1 3/4 (except for the rear cross bar ),
roll cages should be constructed of 1 5/8 ,
whats in yours i cant say and i doubt anyone else could , i suggest you measure the bar you plan to mount to

i agree. just wasnt sure and figured i would post since the car is 500 miles away

1 3/4" = mild steel
1 5/8" = chromoly

I had a Ernie McDaniel roll bar, it was 1 3/4" and in mild steel.

not true
a roll bar must be 1 3/4" minimum but can be mild or chromoly which will have the same outside dimension , what differs is the wall thickness , chromoly doesnt need to be as thick walled as mild so theres a weight advantage in going to CM but it costs more

roll cage can be 1 5/8" but thats a minimum and wall thickness would be thicker if done in mild steel vs CM

i see op posted wall thickness ...but if your mounting 'onto' a bar the bars are measured outside

I know this is a little of topic, but I look at it this way. Sometimes it's good to go with the minimum and least expensive, but when it comes to safety that's one area U shouldn't chince out on. If U plan on running 11s why not build it for running 8s. Force and inertia don't care how fast ur going so why take the chance IMO.

2009 NHRA rule for full bodied car

Roll Bar 11.49 to 10.00
Main hoop, side door bars, and rear bars:
1 3/4 O.D. x .118 wal thicknes mild steel tubing
1 3/4 O.D. x .083 wal thicknes chromoly tubing

Side to side bar which the seat belt shoulder straps mount to:
1 1/4 O.D. x .118 wal thicknes mild steel tubing
1 1/4 O.D. x .065 wal thicknes chromoly tubing

STD. Roll Cage 9.99 to 8.49
Main hoop, halo, side door bars, and rear bars:
1 5/8 O.D. x .118 wal thicknes mild steel tubing
1 5/8 O.D. x .083 wal thicknes chromoly tubing

When an X configuration is used instead of 1 door bar:
1 1/2 O.D. x .118 wal thicknes mild steel tubing
1 1/2 O.D. x .083 wal thicknes chromoly tubing

Side to side bar which the seat belt shoulder straps mount to:
1 1/4 O.D. x .118 wal thicknes mild steel tubing
1 1/4 O.D. x .065 wal thicknes chromoly tubing

As you can see, you have to be very careful about asking questions on how to construct roll bar/cages here. You'll get different opinions, and some are incorrect. Always consult a reputable chassis builder or your local NHRA chassis inspector. :)
