winter is here at northeast and track will be closed till april so i figured i would post a slip from the last passes that i made in the 86 thanksgiving weekend buick vs ford

sat 11-25-2012 Atco raceway
heres the times as the car ran from 1st pass at 11AM to to 7th pass at 230pm

1st run left car as it was set at etown but had made some slight suspension tweaks
MSBC-1 electronic boost set at 8psi launch and 3800 bailey 2- step on Tbrake (TH400RMVB) , 24.5 psi all other boost stages
1.523 4.160 6.383 110.23 8.313 9.960 136.81

that was good lets try again... no changes
1.529 4.163 6.389 110.04 8.325 9.974 136.79

thats consistent enough to win most brackets

hook was good so lets try for little more off the tree
added 2 psi to launch boost (now at 9.5 psi and set 2- step at 4000 rpm )

1.464 4.078 6.296 110.26 8.229 9.876 136.91

added 1 psi to 1st boost stage (now 25.5psi for 2 sec and then 24.5 to top) and set 2-step to 4100 rpm

1.448 4.042 6.251 110.73 8.179 9.827 136.79

elimination round dialed 10.0 (thats all i could dial having just a roll bar) and hit a -.007 light so i stayed on it ..

1.454 4.078 6.298 110.33 8.230 9.877 136.80

went into test and tune lanes ...upped the launch 1 psi (now 10.5psi) added 1 psi to 2nd boost stage and moved 2-step to 4200
blew tires off !! track is getting cooler and air is getting better
1.863 4.532 6.752 110.50 8.678 10.320 137.23

i like the mph. debated packing it up and going home since it looked like i wouldnt get another pass before they finished the day ...well decided to sit in lanes and see if i could get one last try, didn't want to waste last run of the day spinning so launch back down 1 psi ( 9.5 psi) set 2-step back to 4100, upped 1-2 stages 1 psi (now 26.5 psi for 6sec and 25.5 top half of track ) ,

1.463 4.055 6.259 110.97 8.178 9.815 137.68

93 octane pump gas and razor alky dual nozzle meth injection

That's about as good as it gets.. Congrats that combo is flying and consistent.

Stock main caps and bolts too I see! I've been thinking of doing the same. I have a good Eagle crank and if it doesn't noodle, than I shouldn't need billet main caps right? Obviously I know your answer. What kind of rpm are you turning through the traps? What do you shift at? Thanks for the info if you are so inclined to share.

shifting 6000-6300 , trapping just under 6000 with the ptc,

Thanks. What kind of mph would you feel comfortable pushing your setup if fueling requirements weren't an issue ie no knock? I really want to keep the stock main caps but I've always been told that billet mains in the center or a girdle were a must. Everyone I know that's broken caps were using a stock crank though. Very few don't do billet mains even with a good crank.

comfortable...he left the building already :)
its well into the fingers crossed area

not worried about fuel it went 134 on stock fuel lines and 6200 trap with old converter , have -8 feed and -6 return now , twin 340s can supply more than my 109 will will see
I have an RJC girdle ready for the current setup , just havent had time to do it.

i feel more confident pushing my ttop which has stock crank but has center mains , and that car has a full cage for more track play into the nines ,, so i may just leave the 86 alone and run 10.0 index with it and focus the playing time on the ttop this year

Billet center caps are cheap, and most likely you will need an align bore anyway, so why take the chance to save less than $200?

Agreed. It's not the $ issue but rather I've heard things about billet mains hammering the block instead of staying put. I assume that comes down to the machine work though and I definitely trust the guy doing it. Just seems like the good cranks maybe don't need them as the proliferation of billet mains resulted from stock caps breaking under stock cranks. I haven't been at this as long as some, but all broken cap stories I know of were using a stock crank. I'd be glad to hear others opinions as well. Thanks for your input.

Awesome runs.

Interesting that you didn't gain much on the last run in the 1/8th, although you picked up 1 mph in the second 1/8th. You added a full psi compared to the 4th run and it was getting colder. Maybe those heads are near their limit? Not mega ported right?

I wonder if it will hold if you keep the launch boost at 9.5psi but raise the 2 step to 4200. And/or maybe ramp the boost up to say 28psi in 1st to get you through the converter coupling and then back it down. Would be nice to get some videos of the launches. Hopefully I'll get my launch dialed in and be right there with you ET wise.

What was the temp that day?

You could lose another 70lbs and still be TAI legal. 9.7s.

track temp was mid 40s

i dont think the heads are done on performance .
and no I wouldn't call them ported , runners are stock , egr ports arent filled , little cleanup behind valves , guide protrusions are smoothed (not removed like champion does) , and the normal mods for roller cam and roller rockers
intake is stock except for the egr tower removed and filled ,
plenum is open mease sheetmetal
in pretty sure the turbo isn't done but i was running the smaller 3 bolt .63 exhaust housing and through the full dual exhaust
might be time to bolt back on the .85 housing and maybe uncap the jersey dump

as for the mph up top there was a good head wind blowing down the track later in the day
