When installing the fittings(pipe threads) in a transmission and also the fittings(pipe threads) on the external cooler should some type of thread sealant be used? Hey, Bruce I am almost finished with the install of the trans that I got from you. I got delayed about 5 weeks due to shoulder surgery. Right now it is 25 degrees and snowing here in Virginia. These threads are tapered pipe and will seal just fine, dry. The problem with using sealing compound or teflon tape is that these can act as a lubricant and lead to inadvertant overtightening.
