Hey guys,
located in southern ny, wondering if anyone had any suggestions on who was a good rebuilder and how much its going to run me.

Please use the search. This has been covered way to many times.

Unless you are going to race the car mostly on the track and have high hp being applied to the trans / converter all the time. I would find a local well known transmission shop that is independently owned and talk to them about your needs, and if they can meet your terms. That way they will be removing rebuilding and reinstalling the transmission and provide you with a warranty.

Back in the 90's when i lived in Jacksonville FL. I had a local AAmco transmission shop that was independently owned rebuild my transmission. The guy that did the rebuild had a lot of experience with many years of doing them. His name was Jimmy Brookshire a real nice guy he even let me watch / hang out with him when he built my transmission when i came to pick it up on a Saturday. There was some confusion between the manager and the builder for the reason it wasn't done when i came to pick it up that day. But it got built and installed and it cost me $850.00 and came with a 1 year warranty. I beat that transmission up for 3 years and drove over 50,000 miles in FL. When i moved out of FL i had them check the transmission and the manager told me if i was going to still be living there he would be willing to provide a lifetime warranty to cover the transmission for an additional fee. Oh and when they installed the transmission they also installed my Kenne Bell 11'' 2800 stall converter with it.

There are only a few trans builders around the country that have years of knowledge and experience with the GN transmission, and you are inviting trouble by using just anyone.

Dave is an expert of 30 years doing these transmissions, and he is someone you can trust.

Past history on this board will show lots of issues from members using local or unknown GN trans builders.

The cost of building your trans depends of the performance level you desire, discuss this FIRST with the experienced builder you select.

You are smart enough to ask for help, hopefully you are also smart enough to make a good choice!

Just to add if you are building the car for track use with very little street / hwy driving maybe a th400 transmission would be a better choice for you.

Dave just built my tranny this past summer, great guy. 10 day turnaround for mine but i dropped it off and picked it up. Mine been working perfectly since i installed it. Price depends on what you have done to it. Dont make the mistake of letting just anyone work on your 200r4. They are just like motors you need an experienced gn guy to have it done correctly. Have someone that knows what they are doing the first time and it will last for year to come, who the hell wants to keep pulling thier tranny out, despite the guy in the video that does it in 20 minutes, thats not me,i gotta lay on the ground and chances are so do you.

I'd find someone local your comfortable with who offers a good price. I used a 'premier GN trans
builder' and smoked two of them in quick order. A friend used the 'top guy' and blew up three. These transmission weren't designed to take this abuse and I've yet to see any guru come out of the woodwork and make one bullet proof.

price depends on build, dave husek builds a great 200(y) he is located in long island

X2 for Dave Husek....I purchased his Torque converter and "basic" build transmission. I absolutely love them both. Car runs and drive smooth but yet very quick and positive shifts. Great daily driver...and super fast when you get on it. Best of both worlds.

I had a customer use his trans guy after I recommended Vince Janis. He spent 1200 and when we took the car to the track, it wouldnt shift into 3rd gear. He ended up at Janis. I have never had a problem with one of Vince's tranmissions, from 10s to 8s. Dont use someone local you are wasting your money. They are going to charge as much a a basic rebuild from a known 200 4r specialist.
Some people could f up free lunch. Bison knows his shit, as does Dave Husek.

I sent out a time lapse vid to my buddies and one of them did this for me (to me?) lol

"Yakety Axe'" really does make any video funny. You could set a funeral procession and graveside casket lowering to that music and it would lighten the mood.

But seriously folks, try not to have to R&I the trans repeatedly. Take it to a reputable 200-4r shop the first time.

I was there in the late 80s in basic an ait , Thought it was a lot of cav training there . I was in armor , M60A3 and M1A1 tank comander

Ok,

I was a part of the "Aircav" flying OH-58 Kiowa Warriors. Love it, good time...great people and ingrained memories. Thanks for your service.
