This build did not evaporate on us all... Had a heck of a year since the end of September, '24. Unfortunately 3 other vehicles, illness, family loss, budget and continued health issues have delayed completion. We did get the J&SSafeguard unit, but gave up on the original wiring harness. Now that...
Hello all!
I have a situation with my Hybrid build. Currently we've gotten the rebuilt motor to kick over after 30+ years dormant. Original carb NOT rebuilt. New mechanical fuel pump & pressure regulator's at approx 5.5 psi. The carb starts to overflow shortly after it started. Not using the...
I think you'd have some clearance issues in the rear at the firewall for the intake. Also the center p/u oil pan and crossmember are an issue without raising the engine.
Thanks WarWagon! Rich George also suggested this, and I have been in touch with John and Ray on it too. Would it be easier to use the 85 non-vac advance distributor from the 3.8NA block I also have instead of the vacuum advance off the 79 or 80 motor?
After a lot of time internet searching, I'm not 100% convinced but believe the module and harness are for the 85 Cutlass Donor car's Cruise control instead of the TCC/ESC system from the 80 MC Turbo.... Joys of storing projects for WAY too long.
Here's what I do have to connect things up....But it doesn't seem to match the schematic from the manual OR have the knock Sensor provision.
The 'spare' distributor pictured is for an 85 NA 3.8, and I have the vacuum advanced distributor installed on the motor now.
Any ideas?
Update and Issues w/the swap:
Truck 95 % assembled.

Trying to figure out how to set up the wiring from the cut wires on the vacuum distributor to the ECS/TCC in the cab & the knock sensor pigtail. (OR how to eliminate it all and tap into the Ranger wiring....) Kinda stuck here.
I have both an 85 NA 3.8 DIstributor ( and a 79/80 Turbo 3.8 (vacuum advanced) Distributor. available to me on my Hybrid build. Wiring (4 wires) out of the Turbo distributor was cut. I have the interior mounted TCC box from the 80 Monte Turbo donor and the wiring from the control box out to the...
Not finding any Turb0-guru and turbo-specific info, what I've been able to 'glean from the interwebs' is either 4-5psi or 6-7psi. Seems that most seem to have a bit of a problem @9+ generically on these carbs. So there's where we'll start.
Were setting up an 80 turbo Buick swap into my son's 88 Ranger and while researching, I cannot seem to find the incoming fuel pressure needed for this carb. I know that the Ranger has a pair of electric fuel pumps, and we have deleted the high pressure (40 psi) pump from the system. It also has...
