James,
I have a couple of these cranks and they are really nice. They are machined from the Buick Motorsports forgings and are very good quality. I know Ken Duttweiler has used a lot of them over the years. Also I once owned the crankshaft that you had spoken to Jeff Rand about. I...
Guy's,
Nick does have a point there. I haven't tried this myself but it should work. This would only hold true if you went back to a gasket with a small flame ring dia. Since the 1007 gasket has a dia of 4.090" the stock gasket with it's 3.8xx" bore should work.
Neal
Lee,
I torque my main studs at 100 ft lbs and the splayed bolts at 60ft lbs. I've heard of people using more but I try to duplicate what my machinist uses. These values are with ARP moly lube.
Merry Christmas
Neal
I'm up for that
John,
I have an '87 limited with 54 K miles that is my daily driver. I'd volunteer to give you a hand. I also make my own chips if that helps. Drop me a line and maybe we can team up.
Neal
Keith,
Turbo Crazy is correct. The standard bore for a 4.1 block is 3.965". The NEW blocks I've seen and used are typically 3.960" from the factory. Mine current block was 3.960" and we finished the cylinders at 3.965". Many of the used blocks you'll find are over 4.0" bore because of the...
I can't say enough.
Thanks Again guys!!
I've been a little down in the dumps after my most recent Champion head saga. I've been questioning my own judgement etc. and if I have the finances to continue the pursuit of going fast.
For some this is a business and a tax write off, for me...
Did you say Magnum PI?
Kevin,
I'll race him with my Roadmaster wagon. Should be a pretty even race since 1985 vintage Ferrari's are 14 second cars. If he end's up looking good I have a few more tricks up my sleeve. ;) Hell, you should put a serious smack down on him and he'd have that...
Nick,
I'm in!!
I've had enough grief from the aluminum heads that are available currently and I'm looking forward to a head with a stout design like the TA heads. I was commenting to a friend that I'd spent more $$ on heads than anything else in the quest for horsepower. I think it's...
Worth a thousand words
Fellas,
It's been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Here's a picture of one of my heads. I'm not honestly sure which one since they both cracked in the same place.

Enjoy

Bruce,
I agree. Also I don't claim to be at the 1000 H.P. level but I'm concerned by the cracks I've found in the heads I have. I would suspect the begining failure I'm seeing at around 800 H.P. could prove to be catastropic at a much higher power level. I haven't spoken to Cal but...
Jack,
Based on where I'm at now I'll fix my heads myself since I don't have 6 months to get it done by Champion. Originally when I started this thread I just wanted some input to see who was having problems but now it's been hijacked I doubt we can get it back on track.
Do me a favor...
Reg,
I've got the same cam and I can tell you that it will run to around 6200 RPM before it's out of wind. My trans had been set up to shift at 6400 before and it just goes flat at that point
I've got to think form what you've said that the convertor is too loose. Convertors are sort of...
