Thank you pacecarta, so what you are saying is that wire is not really required? and it doesn't matter which side of the short that i cut it off just so long as I break its continuity? I don't know if my 82 year old hands will fit down there!!!
A couple weeks ago I replaced my valve cover gaskets ( bit of a bear to do!!) I started the car and ran it for a couple minutes outside and then turned it off. half hour later, started it and headed out for a cruise night. Got three quarters up my 1000 ft driveway and it shut down and would not...
Did the check today for codes and none showed up. so will have to check further for other issues like maybe the coil pack. It is still original so after 36 years it would be a good suspect and should be replaced anyway!
Here are the instructions that I was referring to. Doesn't seem to be working like that for me.
Malfunction Codes Reference doesn't make sense to have to count up to some of those fault code numbers.. Thanks for the info on the scan tools.
It never flashed any numbers just the service engine light flashed. I have a retired mechanic friend with an OBD2 scan tool that will have a look at it.
When I went to check for error codes for some rough idling I used the instructions for using a jumper wire on the ALDL diagnostic terminal. The "service engine soon" light flashed but did not flash code 12 which from the instructions is to indicate that the ECM diagnostics are working. Have I...
OK, I unplugged it and it certainly stopped the fan. Why would turning the ignition key to on then off stop it as well? Also, does it hurt anything to go without one, obviously GM thought it was necessary to keep cooling the system after shut down for some reason? I opened it up and looks...
An update on my fan relays and some schooling needed. I installed the new relays and took it for a test run. I still have a problem because when I parked it and the ac had been running the fan would not shut down even after a lengthy wait. I unplugged the relay so we could leave the car...
I think you are right, I cleaned them up and seems to be working normal now. Have to give it a more lengthy test run. I have ordered new ones just in case.
Thanks Chuck for the reply, I will clean them up and put them back together with dilectric grease to see if that improves things before I order new ones. Hard to see how that tar like stuff can be good for conducting current. Leon
It looks like my relays need to be replaced. They have been acting up lately so I found they have been leaking the tar like sealant through the plugs into the wire harness plug. I see the relays are available through Hwystars website but is there a safe way to clean out the plugs on the end...
