Hi the pull up resistor keeps the crank or cam signals reading a voltage when the sensor is in the off state, when the sensor goes to on state it goes to ground or zero volts, and the resistor also limits the current flow in the circuit, if you have a caspers distributor adapter or stock coil pak you don't need to worry as the resistors are built in them,.
