In all probability they added the posi and reused the original gears. One of my posi units came from an '80 Trans-Am. I think it had a 3.08 gear which made the carrier compatible with our 3.42 gear.
While I used to have all these codes memorized, I had to refer to my tattered copy of Steven...
I had a buddy who had all the big mods on his GN back in teh day and he ran 255-50-15 BFG Radial T/As to soften the bottom end and allow the car to launch. It would short time about the same as my intercooled car (1.7s on BFG 23506015s) but the extra 100horses would quickly pull his GN ahead of...
All of my cars were purchased used, some had up to 72k miles on them. Their oil seals were already weeping or leaking and the synthetic probably contributed to them leaking some more or was it the additional 100hp+ and all the racing? After 250k+ miles of driving turbo cars of all years I...
My .02 cents:
All our turbo cars used to get clean Mobil 1 10W30 every 3-5k miles and never wore out a turbo or motor.
In fact one night an oil cooler line blew on the way to the track and I didn't know it. Engine temp went up a little but didn't think anything especially since the...
1980 Turbo?
I believe those were .82 A/R turbines, same as the earlier cars.
I think in '81 but surely for the '83 they had smaller .63 A/R turbines which decreased the lag and brought the power on much faster.
Carefull with how the cars "feel".
I once spent a small fortune on a 9"...
What is the rollout of the tire, how many inches?
I learned that 82" was perfect and allowed my street cars to turn their fastest times, both hot air and intercooled. Back then the BFG Radial T/A in 215-65-15 and 235-60-15 and the little MT 8.5" slick were right on the money. The Hoosier...
I believe a lot of the parts used can be found in the Buick Powersource catalog. It was a very hi-revving engine if memory serves and not something you'd drive on the street.
The technology existed in the 1980s to have a 300hp naturally aspirated 231 which would make for a nice 13-second...
Don't think I have anything specific to that year anymore. Will have to check again next time I re-arrange the junk/stuff in the garage.
Are the old articles from the car mags online these days? I either cut them out or printed them off microfiche.
What's your car run and what have you...
No, don't have any of the cars any more, just some parts and my old books and such.
Indeed, on top of the fan shroud the car did have a computer of sorts to control the spark retard. I remember the goo melting and exposing the circuits underneath.
