Bought a car with 009 injectors and I notice a slight hesitation from off idle acceleration. If I pull off easy, it is fine . Only does it if I leave in a bit of a hurry. Never does it once I get going. Now, I'm told by two reputable Buick mechanics that this is a quirk of the 009 injector. One said he has tried a number of things but can't eliminate the problem. I have a new MaxEffort TW and am confident I can work it out with the TW, but I see a lot of these injectors for sale and knowing how honest we Buick people are, I can't believe someone would not mention this "hesitation". Or maybe I am misinformed and they all do not "hesitate." Not a big deal one way or the other, just curious. Opinions?

They don't all do it, but my does, I also try to solve this problem but it didn't work. Like you said, as long as you don't hit it out of the hole you are fine. At the track I stall the car so there is no problem with the hesitation. Just my experience.

Some of the original chips for the 009's did produce an off idle (tip in) stumble..nature of the beast as you said...HOWEVER the newer chips produced virtually eliminate this problem. Check out a Testa chip, or my personal fav the extender chip (used with a translator setup). I have used both of these chips with my 009's and never had a problem with tip in stumble.

Just my O2 cents

I have 009s and an ME16.

When I use the defaults no stumble whatsoever.

Now, the following is interesting to me. When I set Cruising Fuel to the default, 118, no stumble. When I set it to 100, I get just the slightest bit of stumble, mostly when the car is cold.

When I set it to low 90s, where O2MV are around zero at cruise as Steve Y. suggests, more stumble - to the point that it becomes objectionable, even when the car is fully warmed up.

Why? How is Cruise Fueling related to tip in stumble? Beats me, but I can tell you it happens. I welcome your thoughts???

I think it was Joe Lubrant who said that IHE, just about all tip in problems are traceable to IAC. After playing some with the ME, I'm not so sure.

I would say that not setting IAC and TPS as Steve suggests is an invitation to problems.

Of course, vacuum leaks, a TB plate that doesn't seal the TB bore, poor maintenance of any sort - none of these will help.

However, all in all, I think the old wives tales surrounding 009s are mostly just that. My 009s run very well, better than ever with the ME16 (they were pig rich with RA's chips), and I know that Steve likes them as well, if not better, than 50s.

:)

I fail to see where the oem calibration doesn't have enough tunability to adjust for about any injector.
I have seen some Commercial chips that were laughable for what they were selling as a HiPo chip.

Learning tuning and chip burning will be your best long term cure.

I had a mild off idle stumble with a Red A chip. Switched to a
Testa chip and the stumble is all but gone, and a lot better cruising fuel economy too.

I switched to the extender chip too with GREAT results...completly elimited my tip-in stumble!.

Jim Testa can get the tip in stumble out. I use his chip with my 009,s. No more stumble and allot better MPG's.

I run 009's and a MaxEffort 16 on default settings with
46# fuel psi.
No stumble or hesitation at all :)

Not saying Jim's chips are bad but I still had the tip-in :( . Try to reset the and clean you IAC and check your TPS for correct voltage. They say 009's do have that tip-in that usually chip related but then it could be the car.

ME got rid of the tip in stumble. I also have the Trans+ & alky. My chip is for with & without alky.
ME increased fuel economy noticeably, I haven't sat down yet & calculated the difference, but I get 2 - 3 days a week more on a tank.
You MUST use a scan tool with the ME.

OK Gary first off I have noticed that if you get a 62 mm TB it will help.

Next you can raise and lower pos 6 a little and do the same with pos 1 and find the right combo between the 2.

If you have a 70mm tb put a 2 in pos 6

You will end up with a 0 or 1 or 2 in pos 1 and a 2 or 3 or 4 in pos 6.

Just work between the 2 positions.

FP must be 46 line off.

Keep me posted,

Steve

same here - red's was pig rich down low (blms of 90) and leaned out up top (some kr at 16lbs boost)

jim's showing me a nice 120 blms and i can run 17-18 with little or no kr

oh yeah, the tip in is gone too!

hhhhmmmm thats funny, ive got the same distraction with my lucas green 009s running a 92JL chip with about 18degrees, and my car does the exact same thing. That little hesitation of the start and just when i let of the gas at cruising. Only for a split second or so. Once i get on it no more hesitation. Oh well until i get another chip burned, i will have to deal with it. No biggy.
