Ok......is it really true that my 98 Blazer can go 100k miles on the original spark plugs? Seems a bit far fetched.

It now has 70k miles and has lost about 2 mpg since new. I want to tune it up and that includes the plugs....but of course.....they are under 100k so they must be fine right?

Thoughts?

I have a 99 grand prix with over 110,000 on factory plugs , mpg has dropped a bit but it still starts and runs fine. Some day I will change them dealer wanted over $200.00

It's an EPA game.
They sell ya plugs that cost 3x the normal price with the hope they make 100K miles. So even if they have to warranty a few here and there, they're covered.

IMO, just use normal plugs, and change them ever 30-40m. Changing them everyonce in a while lets you actually see into the chamber by what the plug looks like.

100K mile changes are brought to you by the same folks that think running with your headlights on during daylight hours is safer. And hunting for Spotted Owls, during day light hours.

I might be willing to pay 200 bucks to have them changed. I just looked and it seems aaawwweefully tight in there.

Just changed the plugs in the GN tonight and when one of the plugs let loose my arm went flying and dragged across a connector of some type. Huge scratches and blood everywhere :-)

I will probably loose an arm if I try to tackle the blazer

The orig plugs in my dually went 91k miles before it developed a misfire. Did an ign tune up with all Delco stuff and all is well...cept for the ~$250 my wallet is lighter due to the price of the plugs, cap, rotor, and wires. That was with my cost+10% discount through the local dealer too!!

I have 98K on my Malibu and its still running pretty good. Gets 28mpg and shows no problems. I am changing them at 100K though.

my 1996 dodge caravan 3.3 ran 151k on the orig plugs, mpg was within 1 mpg during the life of the plugs

The plugs in my 1997 F-150 4x4 have 148,000 miles on them. If the damn Buicks didn't keep me so busy I would get around to changing the plugs in the truck.

Aren't plugs that have been in an engine for 100k a real bitch to get out after all that time?

You have to take off the front wheel and go thru the fender well to change the plugs on a blazer. It's a hassle but not too bad. A long extension helps a lot, I use an 18 inch one so I didn't have to stick my head in the fender at all, other that getting the socket on the plug and starting the new plugs

I pulled the fancy platinum 100k plugs out of my 99 Suburban(87k) only to find the some electrodes heavily damaged. One of them was totally gone. I put in plain ol autolites and it felt like a new car.
