I've heard of people adding Xylene to 100 octane unleaded but does it help? Or is there already enough Xylene added to get the 100 octane rating that you would not want to add any more?

I prefer tolulene, but that's me. They both have a 108 octane rating. So for mathematical sakes, lets take 5 gals of 100 and 3 gals of z or t.

5*100=500
3*108=324 therefore take (500+324)/8gal=103 octane

You raised your octane 3 points!
Hope this helps!

xylene is 117 octane
toulene is 114 octane
methyl-tertiary-butyl-ether is 118 octane
adding one of these to 100 octane will raise the octane but it will depend on what ratio is used and how much is already in the 100 octane before adding more.keep in mind too much of one of these may cause harm to any rubber lines or metal it comes in prolonged contact with.

Motor octane is 108 which is the real octane. I believe 117 is the research octane, which is the octane not under vechile load.:)

Motor octane is 108, but AKI is 118 for Xylene and 114 for Toluene. Now, the motor octane for the GT100 is 95 I beleive, going on that basis, 97 Motor Octane if 5 gals "GT100" + 1 gal Xylene

Also one thing to keep in mind is the difference between MON and RON - the higher the difference, the less likely the fuel is to be able to suppress knock at a higher load, whereas, something like toluene, for example, is negligably lower octane than Xylene, but has a smaller spread, Toluene is more stable at high boost/load applications than Xylene.. just some food for thought..
