what kind of boost is safe for a race chip like the 112 that i have, i run 22-24 on 110 and its fine. And what will happen if i mix 110 and 112 and use the 112 chip , lots of knock i guess.
That is a red armstrong chip, there is documentation you should of received that tells you what the chip is exceeded at. I will locate tonight and post tomorrow for you. I believe it's 25-27#'s but let me verify before you call that fact. I know you are good to 25# on most all his race chips.
Is it worth my while to have new larger stainless valves installed into my heads? They have just been rebuilt 3 mos ago (3 angle valve job done etc)...but I am now porting the intake and heads...so they will be apart and off the car anyway....
Larger ..... if so....what size valves int + exh ?
As promised this is the write up that comes with red armstrong chips so you have it
The chips were designed to be used with a 160 degree thermostat and have a fan turn on at approximately 170 degree F. Both cold and hot start ups Rpm's have been lowered. All chips were designed to work best with the bosch 0-280-160-237 regulator or an adjustable regulator set at 43#'s + or - 2# at idle with the vacuum line disconnected. (reconnected vacuum line after adjusting fuel pressure) The boost has been raised to 17# on the 93 chip and 19# or more on the other chips. Torque converter lock up on the street chips is 45 mph in third or fourth gear at light throttle. On the race chips isis approximately 68 mph forced lock up no matter what throttle setting, unless you have ordered a no lock up chip. Fuel curves have been altered on all chips at WOT to increase fuel flow. The timing has been altered at WOT on all the chips. There is more timing with the higher octance chips. The EGR valve is turned off with the race chips. Knock recovery rate is enhanced. (ie if you were to get 10 degree of knock retard the chip will give back the timing faster than other chips) None of the safety features on the knock retard circuit have been lessened or defeated in any way except on optioned chips with knock box feature. The race chips do no pull back the boost if you have knock retard. Speed limit cut out is set at 200 mph Rev limiter is at 6200 rpms (6300 rpms on higher or some special race chips) each chip has it's own individual id number.
93 chip
This chip is designed for street used with 93 or better octane and 17# of boost, but it will vary from 15 - 19 on different cars. If you have adjustable waste gate and an aftermarket boost gauge (everybody should have both) set boost at 17#'s If you go up in octane you may turn up the boost to make more horsepower.
100 chip
This chip was designed for street or race use with 100 octane or better octane. It is mostly the same as the 93 chip with a little more spark advance and approximately 19 # plus or minus 2 # of boost
108 chip
This chip was designed to work with 108 octane or better fuel and is a race only chip. It should not be used with street gas! It boost is set for 20# or more in all gears, but the boost pressure will vary from car to car.
106-107 chip
These chips must have 112 or more octane and are designed for 22# and up for boost. If you try to operate at less then 22# of boost , depending on the size of the injector, you may just flood the engine with fuel
