I was doing some WOT blasts today on the highway. alky was set on dial 9 coming on at 11 lbs. I wasn't trying to go all the way to 100 mph. Just trying to see where my boost is at. I went WOT from 1st gear and got 18 lbs. Went WOT from 2nd gear roll and got same boost. And then went WOT from 3rd gear roll and got 18 lbs. as well. My Boost command was set all the way to max. Even the 3rd gear scaling was set to max and all i could get was 18 lbs. My DS header is fixed and no other exhaust leaks. What else could be limiting my boost? No leaks at the wastegate. Do I just need a second WG solenoid or a HD actuator?

With your BStc turned off what is the highest boost level you can achieve? With only one boost solenoid you have 7psi of adjustment. So lets identify your starting point without the BSTc.

If that proves to be good then check the purple wire from the BStc to the ECM and BSTC controller and make sure it didn't come disconnected.

Could be, I was going from memory. I would have to check to be sure. Do you have the installation instructions still?

FS

Yeah still got them. I looked at the ECM pinouts on gnttype.org and it said it was a pink/white wire

ok with the boost command off I still got the same boost levels in all gears which is 18 lbs.:( I still have to check the pink/white wire. So I'll see if thats disconnected.

Is it possible that the alky is holding you back at 18psi boost? Maybe try turning down the pump speed a little(knock allowing of course....)and see if you get more boost out of it.
I know with my system, I can't run that low of boost or the alky will just keep it there.
Clear as mud?:D

Is your pink and black wire to your waste gate solenoid feeding 12volts to it when the car is running? This wire should be hot. Try disconnecting the vacuum hose from the turbo and carefully see where your boost goes. If it goes up into the 20s, I guess your wastegate solenoid needs to be replaced.

Well I'm sure the alky is not the thing thats holding the car back from making more boost. As far as pump speed I have to leave it from 8-10 because of the 22*PTE chip I'm using. any lower than that and the car knocks.

Yes the pink/black(or is it white?) is feeding 12 volts to WG solenoid.

If I disconnect that hose that goes to the compressor housing in front of the turbo the car will overboost?

Well yes. With that hose disconnected the boost should go as far as it will go. Maybe you should try a different wastegate solenoid. Sounds as though it's not working.

I don't know but if the one you have is not working properly, one will probably do the trick. Did you ever have more than 18lbs? Is that the original actuator?

I had as much as 21 lbs. in the past. The actuator is an adjustable one that came with the 51 turbo.

Sorry, I meant wastegate solenoid. Your mods aren't much more than mine and I'm fine with 24-25 lbs with a single solenoid. All I can suggest for your next step is to try a known good solenoid.

ok I put back my old solenoid(since I got 21 lbs. with the old one before) and see what happens. If that doesn't work I'll put the new one back and disconnect the vacuum hose at the turbo. Gonna test the car on the way to work.

Problem solved!

Well I called Dynotech to see what they would say. I told them my problem and Jim told me to shorten the rod some more. That worked well and now the car is pushing 21 lbs. again! So the WG solenoid was good all along.
