FOR SALE: 1987 Buick Grand National
Hardtop, A/C, P/W, P/DL, Rear Defrost, CD, P/Antenna, Posi

We have owned this car for a few years and it now has 82,400 original miles. It was re-painted many years ago but the paint job was done well and the car has always been garaged. In fact, the car has been driven less than 1000 miles in the last 18 months, and this is part of the reason we have decided to sell.

We purchased the car locally from a custom bike builder who is also an ASE-certified mechanic. He had the transmission professionally freshened and rebuilt the engine himself, and at that time some performance upgrades were added. The engine has a Ramchargers 208 camshaft, 30 lb. Greenstripe injectors, an ATR air intake, a stock intercooler with a Duttweiler neck, and ATR headers and downpipe with Dynomax exhaust.
The transmission has a billet servo and a Precision Industries torque converter. Most receipts are available. The car runs and drives extremely well and the car is very powerful and responsive.

The car is very straight and it has no rust. The car has brand new Bilstein shocks at all four corners, new brakes front and rear, and new front and rear tires. The car also has a Kenwood CD player but the system would benefit from new speakers. The A/C was converted to R134A by a dealer and works extremely well. The driver’s door window motor was just replaced but the window operates intermittently. I suspect the switch is failing.

The interior is in excellent shape, although a seam at the top of the dash has separated in an area about 3” long. The seats, carpet, headliner, etc are original and in excellent condition. The car has deep tint on all the windows, but the tint job is failing on the passenger door. We have access to an excellent tint shop and may consider re-tinting the driver and passenger door glass prior to sale if the buyer is willing to share the expense.

Since the engine was rebuilt, the valvetrain has been noisy. It has not gotten better or worse, but the noise is disconcerting enough to make us want to freshen the engine once again ourselves. It is part of the reason that the car is driven so infrequently.
We decided that if we were to keep the car, we would remove the engine for a complete rebuild. We currently have a loan on the car and really do not have the time or finances to accomplish this, so we have decided to offer the car for sale now at a reduced price. If the car doesn’t sell at this price, we will proceed with the engine rebuild when we are able and offer the car for sale again, with the price raised accordingly.

This is a rare opportunity to own an extremely clean example of a hardtop Grand National. The value of these cars continues to climb and soon examples of this quality will be out of reach for many enthusiasts. At this time, we will accept $8800 for the car. This price is firm. We would prefer to sell the car as-is prior to investing in an engine rebuild because the car is occupying space in our very limited garage, and we are paying county taxes, insurance and loan installments on the car. However, we recognize the car’s value and will not give it away.

We encourage inspections and test drives, but will entertain serious inquiries only. We would be happy to provide pictures of anything specific on the car, but please no picture collectors (we are on dial-up).
