I looked at a 200 today that was supposed to be a '85 GN trans.
It doesn't have the correct codes so just trying to be sure all the pieces are not of any value.
What is the p/n of the GN servo?
I did a search and I think I can identify what I'm looking for other than the Servo.
Are there any other identifying features of a good VB? Besides the pink paint and BR3?

So this isn't the trans I hoped it was but am still pursuing the 200 path.
Can I make the low performance 200 perform as well as a GN trans by using the correct parts?
I already ordered the PTS shift kit and PR valve kit.
Looks like I will be ordering a FEW more items...
I plan to get the Super Servo and use the Alto band and good anchor pin, as well as the adjustable servo pin.
Is there anything else I need to do to make this work besides maybe some mods to the governor for later shifts?

Thanks in advance,

Jake

the billet servo w/adj. pin, wide band and anchor pin will definatly help. I would also suggest hardened stator, sun gear shell and roller low reverse center support. what are you doing for a converter?

Mark,
I will be installing the above parts as well as the LR center support you suggested.
I also plan to upgrade the pump with the chromoly rings and whatever you guys say.
I'll replace the stator and sun shell as a matter of course since I'm going to be into this thing now.
I'll also be getting a trans kit with the alto reds.
So far this is what I have broken down:

Shift kit and PR kit enroute from PTS,
I'll soon be ordering from PTS,
Servo, anchor, adj pin, LR center support, and ?...
OK I planned on getting a complete rebuild kit from www.bulkpart.com with red clutches, as well as the the sun shell and hardened stator and alto band. AND an ATSG manual...

Mark the bulkpart.com price on the kit with reds and regular steels as PTS suggests is $140 can ya'll match that? Or get close and give me a better kit?

Their sun shell is $14, stator was inexpensive but I forgot how much. Their band is $24, but you guys have the combo special going so...

I still need the stuff to upgrade the pump, 10 or 13 vane? I may purchase this from PTS as well, it's $32 for the kit to do it all from bulkpart.com but I know Bruce recommends using GM parts here to get clearances correct and I'm sure this kit probably isn't GM stuff. I do work at a GM dealership though so can get the vanes there if needed.

Convertor...
Well I had hoped to get the GN trans partly because of the convertor. The stock GN convertor will probably work great in my car. It's a 3600 lb '69 Chevelle with mild 427 (425 hp) and 3.73's. Runs 8.4x's in the 1/8th through the mufflers and on 235/60-14 street tires. Car will likely not see slicks anymore. It currently has a TH400 in it with a generic 2200 convertor. Convertor seems to work well and suits my tastes. So a stock GN convertor would probably work similar with maybe slightly higher stall in my case and that would be ok too. As long as it isn't TOO high.

I may buy a D5 from you guys too but it may have to wait until mid- Feb. when I get my taxes back. Or maybe I'll go bigger :)

I'm looking to make this car a nice driver, it already is but would be even better with OD. I will also be fuel injecting it after taxes and 200 conversion.

I need to pick you guys brain on how to set this thing up for my application once I get all the parts.
I would like a 5500 rpm WOT shift. I am familiar with modd'ing governors on TH400's and 350's. I can get them pretty close to dead on where I want them all the wya up to a 6000 rpm shift but obviously the 200 is a different animal. I don't mind doing some tuning here. Just don't want to fudge anything up.

Any other VB mods needed besides what I already ordered and plan to buy?

OK,
Here's my possible plan for the pan, pickup, filter.
take 2 stock pans and cut them and reweld so as to make one deeper sumped pan. Then fab a pickup tube and filter assembly.
So long as it doesn't suck air, doesn't uncover, and isn't inhibited by the pan itself it should work right? :)
I've done oil pan mods before to put a V8 in a S10 4x4 so this would be similar.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks
And I'll be talking to you again soon Mark.
