Here's the scenario- I don't have a transmission. I don't have a core. I don't have anything, and need a transmission for an 87 GN. I've done searches, and read the various discussions, but most had cores.

Hypothetical GN will be a low 11 sec car that sees some highway driving but will mostly be a cruise night/weekend strip car.

Why shouldn't I go and get a TH350 with a brake?

Why should I spend $2000 on a 200 (and not even with a brake considering I don't have a core)

Thanks in advance guys!

This has been debated many times in this forum. The short of it is, if you're going to use the car primarily for the strip and limited, local street driving, get a three-speed (TH-350/TH-400).

If you're going to drive the car daily and for extended distances, the .67 overdrive and converter lock-up are extremely beneficial.

MeanBuicks,

I've just bolted in an 87 GN engine into a 1981 Turbo T/A using the stock TH350 tranny. There is another thread on this forum suggesting proper shifting may be a challenge. (see http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=565928#post565928).

However your posting on this thread sounds like things will be fine.

Since I am just in the final stages of getting my project done, are there any suggestions or feedback you can give me to help ensure this combo works properly?

Thanks!
