My sister has a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am with a 4 cyc. When she starts it up, it idles pretty high. It seems like the colder the engine the higher it idles. I started it up earlier and it went up to 2000rpm. Any idea on what the problem is ?

What problem?

Seems fine to me. 2K is a little high, but nothing to worry about.:D

My sister said it goes over 3000rpm sometimes, the 2000 is just what ive seen personally. It never idled like that before.

Check for a vacuum leak. If its a 2.4, check the vacuum hose by the TB. Comes up and does an immediate 90*. They suck shut, then split. Once split, you may or may not hear it, but the added air will give what you describe. And if allowed to idle, you may get a code for lean exh or fuel at lean limit something like that...I thinik P0171 or so.
