Well since I bought my new "T" my goal was to be able to run 20lbs of boost with only 93 octane and have NO Knock!

Although I'm a Firm believer in Razors ALKY kit and will more than likely end up on this car, I first wanted to see what I can get out of this car on just 93 octane alone.

The car had a stretched stock location I/C on it when I bought it and it was set on 17lbs of boost and did not get any knock while test driving the car. well after I got the car home and disconnected the battery to do some work, it lost the settings in the chip and I never got over 15lbs of boost without knock. Well the settings in the chip must of been masking several issues. The old fuel pump was heating up after driving and loosing fuel pressure,( I replaced the fuel pump with a Red's XP ) and then my fuel press went wacky. It showed 70psi at idle and the press went Down as I gave it gas, ( I then replaced the Return line with 60psi gas line) and that fixed that.

I also wanted to have a new fuel regulator but just couldn't see spending the extra cash for a new one so I called ACCUFAB and I sent in my regulator and they rebuilt it and tested it for only $25.00 Now everything is up to par and ready for tunning...

Well today was the first time out with new fuel pump, rebuilt accufab reg, and front mount. WA LA!

1st pass, 19lbs / No knock!

2nd pass, Turned up the boost 1lb got 20lbs boost and No Knock!

I thought it was going to be harder than this to achieve 20lbs boost on only 93octane!! The next step is to see just how much we can get on only 93 octane....

Now there is traction issues !!! A good issue to have...

More testing to do in BG!!!!

I have been running my GN on 93 octane at 20 lbs boost after my build with no alky and zero knock at WOT. Some say BS I say learn how to tune.

If you richen up the air fuel and drop timing you will be allowed to run way higher boost. I have seen 23 PSI on pump gas only no alky.. and no knock... but... The car wasnt making any power.. but the needle was there non-the less. Once you start trimming it out to make power.. the house of cards comes crashing down as the octane is needed.

If you trim the car to run 11.5:1 air fuel, put the timing over 20 degree's.. you aint going to run the boost. Especially with an old motor.

Fresh motor, fresh heads, larger turbo.. efficiency is up.. yes.

Good to hear your playing with the car... see you in BG :D

Wanna go fast on a Buick.. feed it 3 things octane, timing, boost :D Get rid of anyone of those.. your results will decrease.

Actually missed one more thing $$$$

Very nice Scott!

I was able to get that high last year with my stuff. I ended up running about 15 degrees of timing and a 10.5:1 a/f. I don't use a knock gauge though...just an old fashion plug reading. This year I am going to try it again after BG and Norwalk. Want to go 10.000's on 93 alone on DR's (Did 10.4 last year with very little testing.)

Some of my Honda buddies have been upwards of 500hp on pump. They run lots of boost and single digit timing....but their combustion chambers are a little better than what we have imo.

Told ya so!! I knew you could do it, I've been runnning that way for years now. I actually run 21# in 1st and second and about 19.5 in 3rd and 4th.

WOT timing is in the 19/21 range. 19 in 3rd/4th, and 21 in the low two gears.

I've been convinced for years the front mount makes a HUGE contribution to this equation. Remember our conversations about the changes you would see and feel once you got the front mount in?

I'm running about the same timming as you. My TT chip is steped, I start out with higher timing and steps down a few deg.

The front mount made all the difference in the world, Cooler air charge, Quicker throttle responce, It's a whole new car really!

You were totally right on with what you said about going to the front mount!! ;)

I think i'm going to throw a ALKY kit on it eventually because I wouldn't mind pushing it up to 25+lbs boost and run TAI..

Thanks Bud! I will see you there! ;)

Well, now that your car is in a great state of tune and all's working well, this would be a good time to throw some alky at it!

Your right, but This is just the beginning of the tune! ;)

The next step is to get a WB o2 & a data logger for the car. I'm looking at the LC-1 + SSI-4 by INNOVATE. Innovate Motor Sports On-Line Store

The only thing i'm wondering is if there is anyone out there using the Log Works software. It looks pretty nice....

Get your tuning fingers ready dave!

turbo 6 two cents worth

Turbo motors are octane limited. Remember that.:)

If you have some tunability in your car's bolt ons it shouldn't be that hard for most to do. I've done 19 in my car on 92 octane on a cool day, 0 knock using turbolink. I have an untouched stock neck stock intercooler and 18* of timing. The translator plus/extender setup allowed me to do this with less than 10 WOT blasts. On hot days 17# is pushing it though. Dutt neck is on the way, finances too limited to put a real intercooler on right now.

Using a MUCH better intercooler than me, and just a hair better fuel, 20# seems doable especially on a good air day. I have no way to track my A/F ratio though. And not an expert tuner by any means

Hmmmm. Sounds like this would be a good time for you to do a back to back test on one of those ebay intercoolers. No one has done it yet. I can't remember the name of it though

True! More testing should be done between owners with as many parts as we try! Honestly, it would be a great idea..

There were several things I found out on going with a larger front mount!

1) They Flat out WORK! They DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

2) They are a P.I.A to install with those damn pipes! I had mine in & out several times tweeking it to fit better and I hope I NEVER have to remove it for a long time! ;)

I have thought about doing an ebay or a powerstroke intercooler. Who's gonna be the one with a running car to do some testing.

Scot w, I'm sure someone would be willing to lend you an ebay intercooler to try. Have you seen the big thread on the ebay intercooler yet?
