2nd Gear Starts and Delays…..
Well brought my tired new toy to the track.. I will try and give a quick summary.. The car cant get out of it’s own way out of the hole.. I ran 14.1 @ 106.60 with a 2.55 60’.. The converter seems to only stall around 1300. The trans used to have a slight flare between 2nd and 3rd gear.. Fluid looked brown… I was planning on a complete rebuild.. Other than the Flare the trans Chirped 2nd and Hard Shifts thru all the gears under normal driving.. It only flared 2-3 under WOT..
So everything seemed fine at the track.. Got 4 passes in with just 2/3 flare up.. Go to leave the track and notice the car wont shift to 3rd… When I got up to 50+ it finally went in.. Then no OD until about 70+… Once it is in the gear it doesn’t slip or anything. Now I come to a stop and it does not leave out of 1st, it starts in 2nd unless I put it park and put it back in D.
I know the trans was on borrowed time. The other thing I noticed before going to the track is I never feel the trans lock up.. Leads me to believe the wrong converter is in the car, that’s why the stall is so low.. (maybe it took a crap)
Anyway, I just wanted to know if there was something I was overlooking, or was there an easy fix so it shifts right under normal driving. I adjusted my tv cable.. it made a difference on the 1-2 shift (early), but nothing else.
Thanks, Dave
