Of the 3" converters out there which one has the "best flow" reputation? Does the cc have to reach a certain temp to be "work"??

How

cats are most efficient when the plates are hot, thats why cold start up emissions are the worst

Actually, I want to quiet down the 3" single shot exhaust system that's now on the car, but I don't want something that will absolutely all but choke down the engine. Can anyone advise which out there would be the best "high performance" cat converter?

HOW

You may want to read around on the Random Tech. cat. website.

They may have some facts pages or technical data on their 3" GN cats.

I've got one but the longest it's been on the car is about a week. ;)

It's expensive and about 15" long.

They used to have the "best flow reputation" when I bought it, but I never proved the performance aspect of it vs. a hollow one.

I have had a couple of converters on my GN trying to figure out the exact same thing. I started out with a 2.5” Dynomax Super Converter which was a big improvement over the original issue converter. When I up graded to my 3” exhaust I purchased a CATCO 3” converter… again I felt an improvement but I cannot say for certain that the 3” converter made the difference since I upgraded to an entire 3” system at that time. Since I passed emissions with flying colors I have now removed the converter and installed a test pipe. The test pipe made the biggest performance difference with minimal increased exhaust note (at least in my case).

I bought both converters from either JEGS or Summit.
